Romania Clasa a VIII-a Technology Education and Practical Applications
Chapters: 5
1. Technologies
Electrical energy · Home circuits · Exploratory visit
- How Electricity Is Generated – Most electricity is made by spinning a magnet inside coils of wire (or coils near magnets). This is electromagnetic induction, and the machine is an alternator. A turbine does the spinning; steam, water or wind turns the turbine. Solar cells are different: light makes current directly. Transformers raise the voltage so the grid can carry power far with little loss.
- Domestic Electric Circuits – A house gets 220 V, 50 Hz AC through a live and a neutral wire; appliances are joined in parallel on separate 5 A and 15 A circuits, and a fuse or MCB in the live wire plus an earth wire keep the house safe.
2. Design
Graphic language in electrics
- Technical Drawing: Communicating Design Ideas – Technical drawing is a shared visual language for showing the exact shape and size of an object. Designers start with freehand sketches, then use pictorial views (isometric, oblique) to show the object in 3D, and orthographic projection (front, top and side views) with standard lines, dimensions in millimetres and a scale so that anyone can make it. Today most drawings are made with CAD software.
3. Quality, economy, entrepreneurship
Appliances and costs · Business and labour market
- Electric Power and Electrical Energy – Electric power is the rate of using electrical energy: P = VI = I²R = V²/R, in watts. Energy used = power × time. At home energy is measured in kilowatt-hours: 1 kWh = 1 unit = 3.6 × 10⁶ J. Bill = units × rate.
- From Ideas to Startups: Entrepreneurship – An entrepreneur turns an idea into a business by bringing together land, labour and capital and taking the risk. New ideas replace old ways, which economists call creative destruction. Startups grow with help from investors, banks, incubators, government schemes such as Startup India and Make in India, and small firms called MSMEs. A business plan maps the idea, costs and customers. The profit and loss statement shows Sales − Costs, and the balance sheet shows Assets = Liabilities + Capital.
- Entrepreneurship Development – Entrepreneurship is starting a new business by spotting a need, putting resources together and taking the risk. India needs entrepreneurs for jobs, new ideas and balanced growth. The process runs from knowing yourself to launching and growing. Start-up India (2016) supports new firms, funding comes from savings, angels, venture capital, banks and crowdfunding, and intellectual property rights protect new ideas, brands and creative work.
4. Sustainable development
Saving energy · Safety and environment
- Energy Efficiency – Every machine changes energy from one form to another. Part of the energy becomes what we want (useful energy). The rest spreads out, mostly as heat (wasted energy). Efficiency = useful energy out ÷ total energy in × 100 %. No real machine reaches 100 %. Using efficient devices and wasting less energy saves money and cuts pollution.
- Health and Safety: Hazards, Risks and Controls – A hazard is anything that can cause harm. Risk is how likely the harm is and how bad it would be: risk = likelihood × severity. A risk assessment finds hazards, decides who could be harmed, rates the risk, adds controls and is reviewed. Use the hierarchy of control: eliminate, substitute, engineering controls, admin (rules, training, signs), then PPE last. Safety signs use colour and shape. Workshops, art rooms and workplaces need guards, ventilation, labelled materials, clear exits and first aid. Laws in most countries make employers and workers share the duty to stay safe.
5. Activities, occupations, trades
Careers
- Career Planning: From Knowing Yourself to Your First Job – Career planning has five steps. 1) Know yourself: interests, skills and values. 2) Explore career families and find out the work, study needed, pay and demand. 3) Plan a pathway with SMART goals and a plan B. 4) Search for jobs with a CV, cover letter, digital portfolio and interview practice. 5) Make the move from school to work and keep learning, because careers change over a lifetime.
