National Year 10 French
Chapters: 4
1. Theme 1: People and lifestyle
Identity and relationships with others · Healthy living and lifestyle · Education and work
- Identity and Relationships with Others – Identity is who you are: your name, age, looks, likes and qualities. Relationships join you to family and friends. People get on when they listen, share and respect each other, and fall out when they argue. Role models show good qualities we can learn.
- Healthy Lifestyle: Daily Habits That Keep You Well – A healthy lifestyle is a set of daily habits: a balanced diet from five food groups, enough water, 9–11 hours of sleep for school-age children and about 8–10 for teenagers, at least 60 minutes of activity a day, good posture, safe food handling and avoiding tobacco, alcohol and drugs. These habits lower the risk of lifestyle (non-communicable) diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.
- Education and Work – School has subjects and a daily timetable. After school, people study more (college, training, apprenticeship) to get ready for a job. A job needs subject knowledge, skills and good habits. Many different paths lead to a career.
2. Theme 2: Popular culture
Free-time activities · Customs, festivals and celebrations · Celebrity culture
- Free-Time Activities – Free time is time when you choose what to do. People play sport, make or listen to music, watch films, read and go out with friends. To talk about free time, say what you do, how often, with whom and why you like it.
- Customs, Festivals and Celebrations – A custom is something a group of people does in the same way again and again. Festivals are special days shared by a community. Families also celebrate birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. Each celebration has its own customs, clothes, songs and special food.
- Celebrity Culture – A celebrity is a person many people know, such as an actor, sportsperson, singer or online influencer. Fans follow and copy them. This influence can be positive (good habits, charity) or negative (pressure, fake perfect life). Smart fans ask: is it true, who earns money, and is it good for me?
