China 八年级(初二) Arts: Fine Art
Chapters: 8
1. Sem.1 U1 Traditional Chinese colours
Beauty, charm and new uses of national colours
- Colour Theory: The Colour Wheel, Harmonies, Mixing and Meaning – Colour theory is a set of simple rules for mixing and combining colours. In paint, red, yellow and blue are the primary colours; two primaries make a secondary (orange, green, violet); a primary plus its neighbouring secondary makes a tertiary, giving a 12-part colour wheel. Every colour has three dimensions: hue (its name), value (light or dark: tints, shades, tones) and saturation (bright or dull). Harmonies such as complementary, analogous, triadic and monochrome help colours work together. Warm colours seem to come forward and cool ones go back. Light mixes by adding (RGB makes white); paint and ink mix by taking light away (CMY makes near-black). Colour also carries feeling and cultural meaning.
2. Sem.1 U2 Chinese garden art
Using the site; layout; rockeries and water
- Garden Design: Using the Site, Layout, Rocks and Water – A classical garden is a small world made to be walked through. The designer first reads the site, then borrows far views, lays winding paths with halls and pavilions, piles rocks and digs water so that every turn shows a new picture.
3. Sem.1 U3 Chinese landscape painting
Copying, depicting forms, spirit resonance

4. Sem.1 U4 Book design
History of books; cover design
- Graphic Design – Graphic design is planning pictures, words and shapes so that a message is clear, useful and attractive. Designers use elements (line, shape, colour, type, image, space) and principles (alignment and grid, hierarchy, contrast, proximity, repetition, balance and white space). They follow a process: brief, research, ideas, sketches, digital drafts, feedback and final artwork. Graphic design is used in posters, logos, book covers, packaging, signs, websites and apps.
5. Sem.2 U1 Modern fibre art
Weaving traditions; structure; mixed expression
- Fibre Art: Weaving, Knotting and Mixed Media – Fibre art makes art from threads. In weaving, upright warp threads cross with weft threads. The over-under pattern is the structure. Knots and loops add bumps, and beads, ribbon or paper can be mixed in for more texture.
6. Sem.2 U2 Clothing appreciation and styling
Beauty of dress; colour; outfit coordination
- Beauty of Dress: Colour, Pattern and Outfit Coordination – Dress is art you wear. Traditional dress tells a story of place and people; modern dress follows comfort and trend. Colours that sit close on the colour wheel look calm, opposite colours look bold. Keep one pattern as the star and choose the outfit to suit the occasion.
7. Sem.2 U3 Dyeing design
Blue-and-white prints; tie-dye
- Textile Design: From Fibre to Patterned Fabric – Textile design is planning how a fabric is built and how it looks and feels. Fibres are spun into yarn; yarn is woven, knitted or bonded into fabric; then colour and pattern are added by dyeing, printing or stitching; and finishes give the fabric extra powers like water-repellence or crease-resistance.
8. Sem.2 U4 Space design
Campus and room design
- Campus and Room Design: Making Spaces That Work and Feel Good – Good space design starts with the jobs a space must do. A room is split into zones for sleeping, studying and storing. Furniture is placed so that paths from the door stay clear. Daylight from a window helps reading, so a desk near the window saves electricity. Light colours make a room look bigger and brighter, dark colours make it look smaller and calmer, and a few strong colours work as accents. A school campus is designed the same way: shade trees, benches, play areas and paved paths give every student a place. Before building, designers draw a floor plan to scale, for example 1 cm on paper for 50 cm in real life.
- Fine Art Practice: Painting, Sculpture, Architecture and Campus Design – This lesson joins four art practices. Painting: brush-and-ink works with line and empty space, oil paint builds colour in layers. Sculpture: clay is modelled, stone and wood are carved, metal is cast. Architecture: ideas become plans, elevations and models drawn to scale. A campus design project puts these skills together, checking noise, sun and walking distance.
