What is a national goal or national dream?
A national goal is a big wish that a whole country shares for many years. It is like a family deciding to build a house: everyone knows the aim, and everyone helps.
Many countries have such goals. India talks about Viksit Bharat 2047. Some countries use "Vision 2030". The United States has the idea of the "American Dream". China uses the words "the Chinese Dream" and "national rejuvenation". This phrase became very popular after 2012. "Rejuvenation" means becoming strong and fresh again after a hard time.
What does national rejuvenation mean?
In China's official view, national rejuvenation is a long journey with four parts: a prosperous country (enough money and jobs), a strong country (good schools, science and safety), a civilised country (good values and culture) and happy people (a better life for families). Official goals were set for the years 2021 and 2049, which are 100 years after two big events in the country's history. Other countries use their own dates and words, but the idea is the same: a shared aim and a time plan.
Everyone a dreamer: personal dreams and the national dream
A national dream is not only for leaders. It is made of personal dreams: a student wants to become a doctor, a farmer wants better seeds, a shopkeeper wants to grow the shop.
- When a doctor heals people, the country gets healthier.
- When a farmer grows more food, the country eats better.
- When many people succeed honestly, the country becomes stronger.
The link goes both ways: a strong country gives people schools, hospitals and safety, and happy, skilled people make the country strong.
What can young people do?
Young people are the biggest part of the future. Their role is simple to say and hard to do:
- Learn well: knowledge and skills are your effort.
- Serve: help the school, the neighbourhood and people in need.
- Create: try new ideas in science, art, business and technology.
- Be honest and responsible: follow the law, protect the environment and respect others.
- Dream with others: link your dream to the good of everyone.
You do not have to wait until you are grown up. A clean street, a science project or helping a classmate is already a small block in the tower.
Try it
Write one personal dream and one small thing you can do this week for your class or street. Then move the sliders in the 3D and see how many such small things build the tower.
Key formulas and definitions
- National goal = many personal efforts added together
- Total effort = people × effort each
- Key terms: rejuvenation = becoming strong again; vision = a picture of the future; dream = a wish you work for
Worked examples
1. A town has 6 youth groups planning a clean-up. Each group gives effort worth 4. The goal is 30. Is it reached?
Total = 6 × 4 = 24. The goal is 30, so it is not reached. 6 more are needed, for example one more group with effort 6 or two groups with effort 3.
2. Ravi wants to be an engineer. Name two ways his dream helps the country.
He can build roads, machines or apps that help people, and he can give jobs or teach others. His personal dream becomes a small part of the national dream.
3. Why is a time plan (such as 2047 or 2049) useful in a national goal?
A date turns a wish into a plan. People can check each year whether they are moving ahead, and the goal stays in everyone's mind.
Common mistakes
- Thinking the national dream belongs only to leaders. It is built from every person's effort.
- Thinking a personal dream and the national dream are enemies. They can grow together when the dream is honest and helps others.
- Believing youth must wait to act. Small acts now are real contributions.
- Copying the wording of one country for all. Each country uses its own words; the idea of a shared goal is common.
