1. Sport theory
Introduction to Sport · Sport Education · Sport Physiology and Medicine · Sport Administration and Management
- Sport and Society – Sport sociology looks at how sport and society shape each other. Physical activity runs from free play, through physical recreation, to sport, which has fixed rules, organisation and serious competition. Modern sport grew from loose local folk games: the industrial age brought written rules, clubs and governing bodies, and since about 1950 television, money and travel have made sport global and professional. Today sport, media and sponsors are tied together in a "golden triangle". Not every group takes part equally: cost, time, facilities, discrimination and stereotypes create barriers, so governments and clubs work for equal access, especially for women, disabled people, older people and low-income families. Sport also has a dark side, deviance such as doping, violence and match-fixing, which rules, testing and the law try to control. Sport can build health, identity and togetherness, but it can also divide.
- Exercise Physiology – Exercise physiology studies how the body works during and after physical activity. When we exercise, working muscles need more ATP and oxygen, so heart rate, stroke volume, breathing rate and depth rise. ATP is remade by three energy systems: ATP-PC (about 10 s), anaerobic glycolysis (up to about 2 min, makes lactate) and aerobic (long efforts, uses oxygen). Cardiac output = heart rate × stroke volume. Regular training strengthens the heart, lungs, muscles and bones; ageing slowly reduces these, but exercise slows the decline.
- Sports Management: Organising Sport – Sports management means planning, organising, leading and checking sport so that people can play safely and enjoy it. To organise an event: set a clear goal and answer who, what, when and where; choose a format (knockout, round-robin, league or a mix) and work out fixtures and time; share roles and track tasks on a checklist or app; make a budget and a risk plan; run the event; then evaluate and report so next time is better (plan → do → check → improve). Sport itself is organised at many levels, from school and club to regional, national and international federations, with government sport policy and different forms such as clubs, commercial gyms, school sport and informal play.
2. Sport disciplines
Athletics · Gymnastics · Aquatic Sports
- Athletics: Running, Jumping and Throwing – Athletics (track and field) is sport where performance is measured: races are timed, jumps and throws are measured in metres. Track events include sprints, middle and long distance, hurdles and relays. Jumps (long, triple, high, pole vault) have four phases: approach, take-off, flight and landing. Throws (shot put, discus, javelin, hammer) depend most on release speed, then on release angle and height. Clear rules on starts, lanes, lines and sectors keep it fair.
- Gymnastics: Apparatus, Basic Skills, Balance and Safety – Gymnastics is a sport of controlled body movement: rolls, balances, jumps, swings and vaults on the floor and on apparatus. The main types are artistic, rhythmic, trampoline and acrobatic gymnastics. Two science ideas explain most skills: you stay balanced when your centre of gravity is above your base, and you spin faster when you pull your body into a tuck. Every skill is learned step by step, after a warm-up, on mats and with a spotter.
3. Performance
Sport Competition Fitness · Sport Competition Skills · Sport Game Analysis
- Physical Fitness – Physical fitness is the body's ability to do daily work, play and sport with energy to spare. It has five health-related components (heart-lung endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, body composition) and six skill-related ones (speed, agility, power, balance, coordination, reaction time). We improve it with a planned programme using FITT (frequency, intensity, time, type) and training principles like overload, progression, specificity, rest and reversibility.
- Physical Education: Learn, Analyse and Improve a Skill – Physical education (PE) teaches you to move well, stay active for life and understand your own performance. Every sports skill has three phases: preparation, execution and follow-through. To improve, you observe the skill, compare it with a model, find strengths and weaknesses, get feedback and plan practice: plan → do → review → feedback. People are active for health, fitness, fun, friends, competition and well-being. Trying new and alternative sports, joining clubs, staying safe and looking after equipment help you keep moving all your life.
4. Major practice
Basic Major Practice · Intermediate Major Practice · Advanced Major Practice
