First and second instrument

• Instrumental Technique: Gesture, Sound, Notation, Rhythm and Practice – Good playing joins a body gesture to a sound. You read notation (pitch and rhythm), control loudness (dynamics) and tone colour (timbre), keep a steady beat in a metre, and shape notes into phrases. Smart practice means slow tempo, small chunks, repetition with attention, and memorising by understanding. A second instrument starts with basic posture, sound production and simple notation.
