China 九年级(初三) English
Chapters: 9
1. Sem.1 Unit 1 The Changing World
Change in society and technology
- Describing Change in Society and Technology: Then and Now – To describe change in English we compare then and now. Use "used to + verb" for past habits that ended, past simple for finished times, "has/have + past participle" with since or for when change reaches today, comparatives (faster than, more useful than) for comparing, and words such as "no longer", "more and more" and "however". Technology (phones, internet) gives easy examples.
2. Sem.1 Unit 2 Inspiring People
Role models (attributive clauses)
- Relative Clauses: who, which, that and whose – A relative clause is a small sentence that describes a noun. It starts with a relative pronoun: who (people), which (things), that (people or things, defining only) and whose (belonging). A clause with no commas is needed to identify the noun (defining); a clause with commas adds extra information (non-defining). We can leave out who/which/that when it is the object of the clause.
3. Sem.1 Unit 3 Smart Learning
Learning methods
- Learning Methods and "by + -ing" – We use "by + verb-ing" to say HOW we do something: "I improve my English by reading." Good learners use several methods: reading, listening, speaking and taking notes. Spell the -ing form with care: make → making, run → running, study → studying.
4. Sem.1 Unit 4 Our Memory
Memories and the past (used to)
- Memories and the Past: "used to" – "Used to + base verb" talks about a habit or state that was true in the past but is not true now: "I used to play with blocks." For negatives and questions use "did" and drop the d: didn't use to, Did you use to…? Use it to share school memories.
5. Sem.1 Unit 5 Power of Ideas
Inventions and ideas (passive voice)

6. Sem.1 Unit 6 Beyond Earth
Space exploration
- Space Exploration – Space exploration means sending rockets, satellites, probes and people beyond Earth's air. Rockets rise by pushing gas down (action–reaction). At about 7.9 km/s sideways a craft keeps falling around Earth in orbit; at 11.2 km/s it escapes. Since 1957 space has been a place of rivalry and cooperation, and it gives us weather forecasts, navigation, communication and new science.
7. Sem.1 Unit 7 Feel the Rhythm
Music and rhythm
- Music and Rhythm: Preferences and Relative Clauses – A relative clause adds information about a noun: "The song that makes me dance." Use who for people, which or that for things, where for places. Use these with music words (beat, tempo, rhythm, genre) to talk about what you like and why.
8. Sem.1 Unit 8 More than a Game
Sport and teamwork
- Sport and Teamwork: Values and Team Spirit – Sport is more than winning. Its values are fair play, respect, honesty, effort and courage. Team spirit means players trust, help and talk to each other so the team can do more together than alone. In English we use should and if + will to talk about it.
