- Food and Culture: How Place, Beliefs and History Shape Our Plate – What people eat is shaped by culture: geography and climate decide which crops and animals are available (the staple food), beliefs and customs decide what is eaten, when and how, and trade, colonisation and migration move foods around the world. Food also carries identity, festivals and hospitality. To study food and culture, follow an inquiry: plan a question, gather information from primary and secondary sources, process and analyse it honestly, communicate the findings using the right terms, and reflect on the process.
- First Aid: What to Do in an Emergency – First aid is the help you give an injured or ill person until trained help arrives. Its aims: preserve life, stop things getting worse, help recovery. Follow DRABC: Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, CPR/Call. Breathing but unresponsive → recovery position. Not breathing normally → CPR 30:2 at 100-120 pushes a minute, 5-6 cm deep, and an AED. Bleeding → direct pressure. Burns → cool running water 20 minutes. Choking → back blows and abdominal thrusts. Sprains → RICE.
