1. Spreadsheets
Working with a spreadsheet
- Spreadsheets in Accounting: Formulas, BRS, Schedules, Ratios and Charts – A spreadsheet is a grid of rows and columns where each cell can hold a number, a word or a formula. When one number changes, every formula that uses it updates by itself. Accountants use spreadsheets for bank reconciliation, depreciation and loan schedules, payroll, ratio analysis and charts.
2. Databases
Working with a database application
- Database Concepts: DBMS, Relations and Keys – Keeping data in separate files causes duplication, inconsistency and poor security. A database stores related data in one organised place, and a DBMS (like MySQL) is the software that manages it. In the relational model, data is kept in tables (relations) made of columns (attributes) and rows (tuples); a domain is the set of allowed values of a column. A candidate key uniquely identifies each row; one is chosen as the primary key and the others are alternate keys.
3. Presentations
Creating presentations
- Digital Presentations – A digital presentation is a set of slides shown on a screen to support a talk. Good presentations are planned first (purpose, audience, storyboard). Each slide has one idea: a short title, a few key words, and a picture, chart or diagram that helps. Use a consistent design (slide master or theme), strong colour contrast and large fonts. Add graphics, charts, audio, video and hyperlinks only when they help the message, and give credit for images you did not make. Use transitions and animations sparingly. Finally rehearse with speaker notes, run the slide show, and share or print it in the right format (PDF, video, handouts).
