Repertoire and interpretation
- Musical Interpretation – Interpretation is how a performer turns written notes into expressive music. The main tools are dynamics (loud and soft), tempo and rubato (speed and its flexible stretching), articulation (legato, staccato, accents), phrasing (shaping notes like sentences) and tone colour. A good interpretation respects the style and history of the piece, and the performer can justify each choice. Transposition and improvisation are practical skills that let a musician adapt a piece and create in the moment.
