- Chivalric Epic: Ariosto and Tasso – The chivalric epic is a long Renaissance poem about knights, love, magic and war. Ariosto (Orlando Furioso, 1516–1532) weaves many playful stories with irony. Tasso (Gerusalemme Liberata, 1581) tells one serious story with one goal. Both write in the eight-line stanza called ottava rima.
