- Comparative Analysis: How to Compare Two Texts – Comparative analysis means putting two texts side by side and explaining how they are alike and how they differ. You compare what the writers say (ideas and viewpoints), how they say it (language, structure, tone and form) and why they say it that way (context: time, place, purpose and audience). A good comparison moves between both texts in every paragraph, uses linking words such as both, similarly, whereas and in contrast, backs every point with a short quotation, and explains the effect on the reader.
