Ontario Grade 10 ASM2O Media Arts (Grade 10, Open)
Chapters: 3
1. A. Creating and Presenting
A1 The Creative Process · A2 The Principles of Media Arts · A3 Using Technologies, Tools, and Techniques
- Elements of Art and Principles of Design – The elements of art are the building blocks an artist uses: line, shape, form, colour, value, texture and space (many teachers also add the point). The principles of design are the rules for arranging those blocks: balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, rhythm and pattern, proportion and scale, and unity with variety. Knowing both helps you make art on purpose and talk about any artwork clearly.
- Media Arts: How to Understand and Make Art with Technology – Media arts are art forms made with technology: photography, film, video, animation, sound art, digital images, games and interactive installations. They use elements such as image, sound, time, space, light and interactivity, and principles such as contrast, emphasis, balance, repetition, rhythm, movement and unity. Media art grew from photography (1839) and film (1895) to video art (1960s) and today's digital, internet and AI art. To make a media artwork you follow the creative process: explore, plan, produce, present and reflect – and you respect copyright and people's privacy.
2. B. Reflecting, Responding, and Analysing
B1 The Critical Analysis Process · B2 Identity and Values · B3 Connections Beyond the Classroom
