- नीतिशास्त्र: कैसे तय करें कि क्या सही है – नीतिशास्त्र (नैतिक दर्शन) पूछता है कि हमें क्या करना चाहिए और क्यों। ईमानदारी, दया, न्याय और सम्मान जैसे मूल्य चुनाव में राह दिखाते हैं। तीन मुख्य सिद्धांत: परिणाम (उपयोगितावाद, बेंथम और मिल: ज़्यादा से ज़्यादा लोगों का ज़्यादा भला), कर्तव्य (कांट: ऐसा नियम अपनाओ जो सब अपना सकें; लोगों को साध्य मानो, सिर्फ़ साधन नहीं) और सद्गुण (अरस्तू: अच्छा चरित्र बनाओ; सद्गुण दो अतियों का मध्य है)। अंतरात्मा सही-ग़लत की भीतरी समझ है। स्वतंत्रता ज़िम्मेदारी लाती है। अधिनीतिशास्त्र पूछता है "अच्छा" का अर्थ क्या है और मूल्य सार्वभौमिक हैं या सापेक्ष। व्यावहारिक नीतिशास्त्र पर्यावरण, पशु, काम, मित्रता और शांति पर लागू होता है।
- जैवनैतिकता: जीवविज्ञान और चिकित्सा में सही क्या है – जैवनैतिकता पूछती है कि जीवविज्ञान और चिकित्सा जो करने देते हैं, क्या हमें वह करना चाहिए। इसके चार सिद्धांत हैं: स्वायत्तता (पसंद का सम्मान), हितकारिता (भला करो), अहानिकारिता (नुक़सान न करो) और न्याय (बराबरी)। मानव गरिमा का अर्थ है कि इंसान कभी सिर्फ़ साधन नहीं, इसलिए सूचित सहमति ज़रूरी है। चिकित्सीय क्लोनिंग सख़्त नियमों से कहीं-कहीं मान्य है; इंसान की प्रजनन क्लोनिंग ज़्यादातर देशों में प्रतिबंधित है। जीवन की शुरुआत और अंत के सवाल फ़ायदों बनाम जोखिमों और मूल्यों पर तौले जाते हैं।
